hey!

I'm Rachel, the one-person show behind Watts Street Pottery. I make everything from my home basement (on Watts Street), in Portland, Oregon.

I love making functional things that people use in their daily routines and rituals. I strongly believe that a good mug will make coffee taste better. I'm inspired by the colors and textures of our natural landscapes and lean towards using materials that emulate these places in my work. I hope that my pottery brings joy and richness to the small (and big) moments in your life.

It all started as a kid making friendship bracelets and boondogggle keychains. I have always loved working with my hands and doing crafts. Taking a simple raw materials and turning them into something tangible and useful will never grow old for me.

I'm interested in the way that crafts connect (and also define) our societal cultures and history. Pottery is an ancient practice, with some of the oldest known pots dating back to 20,000 years ago. What a wonder it is to be able to continue to participate in that tradition today.
